I have assembled an extensive list on how to make your computer faster. You might be using Bill Gates personal computer or a computer from a discount store – it does not matter. The slow computer solutions below are tried and true methods of speeding up your computer.

1.Remove unnecessary programs that are taking up space and memory

2.Scan your computer for Malware (such as Viruses and Trojans)

3.Defragment your PCs hard-drive

4.Empty out recycle bin contents

5.Shutdown the computer for 1 minute and turn it back on so all the volatile (RAM) memory is flushed / emptied.

6.Scan for spyware and remove if found

7.Delete temporary files

8.Install more RAM in your computer

9.Delay startup of programs and services.

10.Turnoff Windows Search Indexing service

11.Turnoff Windows Operating System visual effects

12.Clean/Fix registry.

13.Improve Windows 7 and Vista performance by using ReadyBoost

14.Disable unnecessary programs and services from starting up

15.Delete internet browser history

16.Get an Internet Security program that is not memory and CPU intensive (i.e. slows down your computer)

17.Run a System Restore back to a date when the computer was faster

18.Disable Windows Boot Logo to speed up Boot Time.

19.(advanced users) Convert your hard-drive from FAT to NTFS file system.

20.Update all drivers in your PC

21.Get a faster drive with more RPMs

22.(Vista only) Disable the fancy sidebar.

23.(Only for the tech savvy and risk takers) Overclock the computers processor.

24.Download all your Operating Systems latest Service Packs and Windows Updates.

25.Stop computer from overheating (especially the processor)

26.Check for bad sectors on hard-drive

27.(Advanced) If any none critical hardware like USB Ports, CD-ROM, Floppy… etc is not in use and will not be anytime soon then go into the BIOS and, disable so you save on the power and memory these devices were using.

28.If USB devices are slow upgrade any 1.0 ports to 2.0

29.Use a faster Operating System. Windows Vista is considered a slow Operating System. Try Windows 7, Windows XP, Mac or Linux options.

30.(Extreme Option) Reformat the whole hard-drive and reinstall the Operating System and all your important files.

31.(Windows Vista) Turnoff Welcome Centre Screen that opens up when start computer.

32.Run Disk Cleanup to make more space on the hard-drive

33.If computer is slow when using graphic intensive programs consider upgrading graphic card

34.You might need a PC repair service/person to look at your computer.

35.All else fails buy a new computer.
